Mondis is a rogue who believes in the balance of the multiverse, and that the balance is somewhat dictated by fate. His parents taught him the ways of Arae, and at a young age came upon the realization that Arae was speaking to him, directly, in such a manner that even his parents could not understand.
He has walked much of the continent, starting at a young age. He was orphaned at 12 when his home was attacked by sadistic intruders. His mother sacrificed herself so that he would be able to escape from this horrible event. By the age of 16 he was adept at hiding in shadows and surviving alone on the streets of any city.
As the years went by his ties to Arae grew stronger. He committed an array of good and “evil” deeds throughout his lifetime. Although Mondis doesn’t see any action from himself as evil, only the will of Arae that others may not have understood. He thinks the main act that attributed to being relegated to eternal damnation was probably his involvement in the situation with the town of Chesex.
Chesex was a very old city with a long history of corruption. Despite this, Mondis found comfort with a family there who took him in for a time. These were fine folk who always found the good in people, a necessary quality in the city in which they lived. The man of the house was a wizard who taught Mondis some arcane teachings in his spare time.
Eventually though, a vision from Arae instructed him to seek out a chaotic group who were looking to overthrow the government of the town. His vision led him directly to a point of contact with this group, someone who Mondis had never before seen or heard about. The flawless information gained through the visions led Mondis to understand the source could only be divine. With Mondis’ help, the group overthrew the city and much more. Unsurprised, Mondis watch as the chaotic evil power destroyed and pillaged the city in its entirety. All citizens were trapped, good and evil alike, and led to witness unspeakable horrors before their dying breaths.
Mondis was able to save his adopted family, but soon they came to understand his involvement and abolished him forever. Mondis never regret his involvement and continued upon this path until his death at the hands of a group of fellow rogues belonging to a guild he had joined.
To Mondis, this “new life” is proof of his belief in Arae, for he never truly believed he would spend eternity in this hell. He almost knew something like this would happen sooner or later.
